Hot Wheels RC My 1ST Monster Jam Grave Digger Truck |
|
Fairly durable for a first RC car. At Christmas, kids from 3-8 had a good time playing with it. My only complaint would be that the wheel control makes the car difficult to control in a straight line. |

Unimax Radline RC 1:24th Scale Master Series Monster Truck- Destructor |
|
I purchased two of these Radline Master Series monster trucks and a few Platinum Series cars. The Platinums are not to impressive out of the box, the Masters are really cool and worth writing about and hope some find this helpful. Amazon just dropped the price of the Truck, which around $40 is not a bad deal. I paid less and would wait for a price break on the Buggy or Stadium Truck unless you are really poised on finding one. I have only spent a few charges of NiMh batteries with them, but my son and I have some fun chasing and running over things together. The controller is a little complex for beginners and does take some tweaking from time to time to get right, but what else is new with a toy. Steering can get querkey in small rooms, though steering trim and radius control feature is a plus. Upgrades are hard to find, went to a Hobby Town Shop and found nothing, though did observe other RC 4WD cars are no where near this price. I am not a specialist on servo’s and upgrading motor sizes etc., I just appreciate a well thought out toy. Of the five Radlines I own now, only one did not power up, in part due to a loose wire connection to the motor. Changing out parts from the Master to the Platinum Series is fun and could prove to be a good experience for any technically inclined individual. Unimax also makes a Radline Elite Series which would prosumably swap parts easily also. Just not sure how long these RC’s will be in production. The power and speed of this car out of the box is impressive and hope they will gain more popularity. HAPPY SEARCHING |

Stampede Monster Truck RTR with XL-5 |
|
The best-selling Stampede was the first high-performance monster truck and it’s legendary ruggedness has made the Stampede name synonymous for monster truck driving fun. Combine the increased horsepower with the tall, drive-over-anything ground clearance; ultra-tough suspension; and easy operation, Stampede will quickly become your favorite for all kinds of monster truck action. Stampede is still the first name in high-performance monster trucks. The Stampede is one monster truck that doesn’t know when to quit! Crushing cars, catching big air, and popping wheelies have never been this much fun. There is no other truck available that offers Stampede’s unique style, capability, and reputation for durability. When it comes to speed, the Titan 12-turn 550 modified motor and racing-style Magnum 272™ transmission propel the Stampede to speeds over 30mph*. The integrated cooling fan in the Titan 12T pulls air through the motor keeping it cool. Airflow is routed through cooling channels molded into the motor plate. A cooler running motor delivers faster speeds, longer runtime, and extended motor life. |

Traxxas Stampede RTR Electric Monster Truck w/XL-5 ESC |
|
This is my first RC truck. Perfect, exactly what I needed to get into the hobby. Get an extra battery, a wheelie bar, and an rpm wide front bumper from the start. Traxxas has great support. I can’t think of a better first RC experience. |
Interested in RC monster trucks, and want to learn more? Thinking of moving up from a small toy to a more serious (and more fun!) remote control truck? Here’s an overview of remote control monster trucks: how they came about, what they’re powered by, and what they can do.
Basically, a remote control monster truck is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a small scale remote control version of the real-life monster truck: that powerful, massive-tire, truck that runs over smaller cars and sloshes through mud like it’s nobody’s business. In toy form.
Of course, before they started making monster truck versions, there was a long period of low power remote control cars. They would drive weakly and clumsily on flat surfaces only. But now that technology has picked up, you can go off-roading with excellent power and speed and agility. That’s what the RC monster truck is about.
With most remote control cars, you get the choice between toy grade and hobby grade. For monster trucks, you can get a toy size truck that looks like a monster truck, but if you’re serious about power the way real monster truckers are, or if you plan on racing and competing, you’ll definitely want to go for a hobby grade truck.
RC monster trucks that are toy grade are all powered by electric motors that run on battery power. But hobby grade comes with more options. You’ll have three fuel choices:
- Electricity (battery powered)
- Nitro fuel
- Gasoline fuel
The fuel engines both have more power than the battery powered truck. This means that they can support a larger truck size (with more weight and bulk). They can also go faster than battery powered trucks. And they can power over obstacles (assuming they have off-road equipped tires) with more force.
Nitro fuel is a blend of nitromethane (hence the name), methanol, and oil. It’s the most commonly used fuel for remote control trucks. Gasoline is becoming a little more popular than it has been, as it allows for even larger RC monster trucks.
For either of the fuel powered trucks, the higher speeds mean more forceful impacts, so it’s important to have a more durable truck body to withstand that impact without damaging the truck.
People who are enthusiasts of RC monster truck racing and building know what an exciting hobby this can be. But if you’re new to the scene, or if you have someone in your life who is a big fan, you may want to learn a little bit more, to get a sense of what these trucks are all about.
The RC monster truck is a combination of two things: the remote control car, and the monster truck. Remote control cars have been in use for decades now, becoming more and more refined as the technology improves. Most of the time, we think of these cars as being children’s toys, and to some extent, this is true because there are tens of thousands of these toys sold each year.
But a step up from toy grade remote control vehicles are the hobby grade vehicles. These offer more speed, more performance, stronger radio signals, more off road capability, better steering response, and the list goes on. Remote control racing, which is hobby grade, also comes out with slightly larger vehicles than you might typically find in a toy store.
This is particularly true with remote control monster trucks. Imagine the full size monster trucks: massive wheels, massively powerful engines, raw durability that is so big that it seems, well, monster-sized. What these are in comparison to your standard family car, the remote control version is to your standard remote control car, too.
RC monster truck racing lets drivers feel the speed and exhilaration of a race without having to invest in a full size vehicle. It makes a great hobby. And another part of the appeal is that when you get up into hobby grade trucks (as opposed to the remote control toys), you also get more flexibility and control over the inner mechanics of the machine.
So when you buy a monster truck to use in remote control racing, you don’t have to just buy a truck that comes ready to drive out of the box (but you can). You can put together a kit, order replacement parts, and even choose what sort of engine and fuel will power your RC monster truck. The possibilities are endless.
